Final program | 33rd APACRS – SNEC 30th Anninversary Virtual Meeting

ABOUT APACRS COVID-19 continues to ravage much of the world, with a new, more virulent surge having arisen—not exactly but close enough to the dot—a year since it was declared a pandemic. Nevertheless, the human race, indefatigable, continues. Over that year, we had in our own homes- turned-workspaces and across the various episodes of quarantine and lockdown, learned that the technology is in place—has been, in fact, for a while—for another way of doing things. Making use of online meeting technology, the APACRS, for its 33rd annual meeting, is holding its first virtual meeting. Together with the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC), which in turn is celebrating its 30th Anniversary, they offer an interactive environment in which its members will be brought up-to- date on ophthalmology’s continuing Progress to Perfection . The society evolved from the Asia-Pacific Intraocular Implant Association (APIIA) founded by Prof. Arthur Lim to reflect the dynamic developments in cataract and Annual Meetings 1987 – 2021 refractive surgery at the turn of the millennium. In 1987, Prof. Lim foresaw the importance of these developments in Asia, and the society has since witnessed rapid growth under the leadership of Past Presidents Professor Graham Barrett, Clinical Associate Professor Ronald Yeoh, Professor Hiroko Bissen-Miyajima and current leadership under Abhay Vasavada. While the Asia-Pacific geographically represents about a quarter of the world, Asia is home to over half the world’s population. The society aims to address the continent’s cataract and refractive surgery needs, accepting the further challenge of the region’s social, economic, and cultural diversity. Meeting this challenge head on, the APACRS has developed various means to fulfill its function and guide its members along the path to enlightenment. Print Publications Among the tools the society has developed to achieve its goals is EyeWorld Asia-Pacific, an international anterior segment ophthalmology news magazine.
