Final program | 33rd APACRS – SNEC 30th Anninversary Virtual Meeting

COVID-19 is a particularly painful period for the healthcare profession and society at large. We must continue to encourage, support, and care for each other and continue to push the boundaries of ophthalmology and eyecare, with a common goal to reduce vision loss and eliminate preventable blindness. We must rise to the challenges of COVID-19 and not let this virus defeat us! It therefore gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the joint meeting of the 33 rd APACRS and SNEC 30 th Anniversary. SNEC and the APACRS were founded by Prof. Arthur Lim and in many ways both of our histories are intertwined. His vision of more than 30 years ago has become a reality and a success. In 1990, Prof. Lim and his pioneering team built one of the first tertiary eye centers in the Asia-Pacific and later started a research institute that would soon produce cutting-edge translational research. He also founded a society that would spearhead the advancement of cataract and refractive surgery in the Asia-Pacific region. The remarkable growth and development of SNEC and the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI) led by Prof. Lim was continued by the outstanding leadership of Professors Vivian Balakrishnan, Ang Chong Lye, Donald Tan, and the late Chew Sek Jin. Similarly, the significant contributions of the faculty and staff, past and present, have made SNEC and SERI what they are today. We are here standing on the shoulders of these giants of ophthalmology in Singapore My gratitude to the APACRS for mooting the idea of a joint meeting on this special year. This allows us to bring together the APACRS’s internationally renowned experts in anterior segment and the strengths of SNEC’s various subspecialties. We have also lined-up programs for nursing and allied health professionals, our partners in eye care. I am indeed grateful for the strong support from the distinguished overseas and local faculty even with the challenges we have with COVID-19.
