Skills transfer becomes progressively more crucial to providing quality eye care as the fields of cataract and refractive surgery continue to advance. The APACRS Certified Educator (A.C.E.) program was launched in 2002 to motivate ophthalmic surgeons to play a more active role in disseminating the latest advances and techniques to their colleagues. This year’s awards are supported by Alcon, Johnson & Johnson Vision and ZEISS. 2021 APACRS CERTIFIED EDUCATORS (A.C.E) Prof. Chen Weirong is a professor of ophthalmology, tutor of doctoral candidates, and deputy director of Affiliated Ophthalmic Hospital of Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, Sun Yat-Sen University. She is a committee member of the Chinese Ophthalmological Society (COS) and deputy chief of the Cataract Committee of COS. She has led surgical teams on 12 tours to restore sight to patients in 8 countries, including the Maldives, Senegal, and various south Pacific islands in the last 7 years. Prof. Chen is a highly experienced cataract surgeon. She is the principal investigator of multiple NCSF-funded projects and possesses three international patents. She has published 71 peer-reviewed articles in high-profile journals, among which 55 are indexed in SCI. More than 20 masters and doctoral candidates have graduated under her mentoring and supervision. Associate Prof. Tim Roberts is clinical associate professor of ophthalmology at the University of Sydney and medical director, Vision Eye Institute, Sydney, Australia. He specializes in cataract surgery and glaucoma. His research interests include new generation formulas for calculating IOL power, the application of femtosecond lasers in cataract surgery, presbyopia-correcting IOLs, digital imaging systems and toric lenses in astigmatism management, complex ocular trauma repair, MIGS, fixed-combination and slow-release glaucoma therapies, medical ethics, and education. He has published over 55 peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters and editorials, and continues to present his research locally and internationally. He is Cataract Section Editor for Clinical & Experimental Ophthalmology and has served on the editorial board for the American Academy of Ophthalmology Lens and Cataract textbook, and Asia-Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology . Prof. Zhou Xingtao is professor of ophthalmology and vice president of Fudan EENT Hospital in Shanghai. He is chairman of Optometry & Refractive Surgery of the Shanghai Ophthalmology Association and a committee member of the Optometry & Cornea Subcommittee and the Chinese Ophthalmological Society. Prof. Zhou completed his postdoctoral research on the ocular surface and amniotic membrane transplantation in 2001 at Dong-A University in South Korea and now focuses his research on refractive surgery (encompassing LASEK/Epi-LASIK, LASIK, FLEx/SMILE, ICL, TICL, LASIK- Xtra, and laser presbyopia correction), femtosecond laser surgery, the development and treatment of myopia, the control of school myopia, high myopia, and vision science. He has received numerous awards, including the New Century Talents of the Ministry of Education of China in 2008 and several National Awards for National Science and Technology Progress given by the Ministry of Education, most recently in 2017.
