15 2024 APACRS CERTIFIED EDUCATOR (A.C.E.) Skills transfer becomes progressively more crucial to providing quality eye care as the fields of cataract and refractive surgery continue to advance. The APACRS Certified Educator (A.C.E.) program was launched in 2002 to motivate ophthalmic surgeons to play a more active role in disseminating the latest advances and techniques to their colleagues. This year’s awards are supported by Alcon, Johnson and Johnson, and ZEISS. Dr. Patrick Versace is senior lecturer in optometry and medicine at the University of New South Wales; Staff Specialist ophthalmologist at the Prince of Wales Hospital Randwick and Sydney Eye Hospital; and a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. One of the first ophthalmologists to subspecialize in laser vision correction in Australia, he became a founding partner of Vision Group Australia (later known as Vision Eye Institute). He has been involved in numerous clinical trials and is often an invited speaker at international meetings. As a member of the TGA Ophthalmic Clinical Advisory Group and specialist advisor to the Advisory Committee for Medical Devices-Canberra, he contributes to the safe introduction of new technologies to Australia. As a leading surgeon in China, she has a great reputation in the field of refractive surgery. She has performed more than 80,000 refractive surgeries and more than 20,000 SMILE procedures. As a head trainer of national and AsiaPacific region training centers, she has trained over 3,000 surgeons from China and other Asian countries. She has organized many national-level ophthalmology academic conferences for cataract phacoemulsification training. She has trained nearly 1,000 trainees. She went deep into western China, including Tibet, Qinghai, Yunnan, and other places, established 10 restoration centers, trained more than 30 local cataract surgeons and nurses, and organized nearly 100 online and offline complex cataract surgery courses. She won the “Second Prize for National Teaching Achievements” and the “China Charity Award” in 2023 and the APAO Outstanding Contribution Award in 2024.
